I Said Your Name is Toby, Senator
Former Republican Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS), is seeking a new job in the recently neutered Republican Caucus:
Ousted Republican Majority Leader Trent Lott is plotting a return to the Senate’s center of power with a quiet but intense campaign against Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander for the vote-counting job of minority whip.
As you may recall, Trent Lott lost his job as leader after he praised Strom Thurmond’s 1948 segregationist presidential campaign, at the rapidly decaying senator’s 100th birthday party. The exact words out of Lott’s non-existent lips were: “When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.”
Lott is onto something here, If anyone is qualified to be Minority Whip, it’s the guy who longs for a return to the days when it was legal to whip minorities. When asked to comment, Senator Barack Obama (D-Shytown) was quoted as saying, “Awww HELL no!“
