According to a new book, Denzel Washington refused to do a love scene with Julia Roberts in The Pelican Brief, feeling that the scene would alienate his black female fans:

Washington explained: “Black women are not often seen as objects of desire on film. And they have always been my core audience.”

Although the script called for the steamy scene between the two megastars, Washington was able to diffuse the situation by shooting a 40-minute, X-rated romp with Maya Angelou instead, which regrettably ended up on the cutting room floor.

Rumor has it, however, that the Malcolm X star’s refusal to do the scene with Julia Roberts was actually due to his fear of offending another community: America’s horses, who venerate Roberts as their queen.

The tactful Washington apparently also intends to avoid hurting the feelings of any other OscarĀ®-contenders, swearing that he will continue to honor his 1996 pledge to “never make a good movie again.”

I was going to make a joke about what a piece of crap “Fallen” was, but then I remembered that I liked “Inside Man.” So, that pledge really was broken.

      Just the one time.

I think Fallen is way underrated and Inside Man is way overrated. We’re the new Lemmon and Matthau, TJ.
